Mike Pede

Mike Pede (’89)

Mike Pede, AVP for Alumni Relations at UH, enters his 12th year in service to UHAA. A 1989 graduate of UH’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Mike and his wife, fellow UH graduate Melanie Stinson Pede (’91), are UHAA Life Members and the proud parents of daughters Kelsey (’17) and Krista (’21). In his role at UHAA, he is the lead administrator for the University of Houston’s alumni relations program, aiming to relevantly engage the over 300,000 alumni of UH. In addition to the UHAA team leadership, he is actively involved in the profession as the founding Chair of the Alumni Council of Executives for the American Athletic Conference for three years, as well as service as a board member of CAAE (Council for Alumni Association of Executives), for that same period of time. He also has served the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) as Chair of the 2017 CASE IV Conference and as Programming Chair for the 2014 CASE IV Conference in Houston. He previously also served as a member of the global CASE Commission on Alumni Relations. He is also a past board member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators.

Mike also serves on committees at the local level including the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, NCAA Houston Final Four Committees, Houston Super Bowl Committee, Greater Houston Basketball Committee and was recently named to the board of the Art Colony Association in Houston. In his early professional career, Mike served in several capacities at UH Athletics from 1986-1993, before his 13-year stint in athletics at Rice University. In 2006, Mike was in private business for three years (ad agency, minor league baseball) and then joined LiveNation in Houston as VP of North American Music. He rejoined his alma mater in 2010 for the second time. In his spare time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, golf and travel.

Chuck Arnold

Chuck Arnold is Executive Director for Alumni Relations. In this role, he will oversee the day-to-day internal operations, including oversight of corporate affinity and revenue, business operations, Life Memberships, UHAAF Board operations and other duties related to the success of the Alumni Relations program at UH.

He brings over 27 years of experience in advertising and sports marketing to the Alumni Association. As Director of Corporate Sponsorships for both Houston Astros Baseball and Houston Aeros Hockey teams, his primary responsibility was the development and maintenance of sports sponsorships. His media experience comes from his time at Houston Business Journal, Houston Chronicle, KPRC- Channel 2, SportsRadio 610 and Liberman- Spanish Language Broadcasting.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Houston and a Masters in Sports Management from Texas A&M University. Chuck has previously served on Board of Directors positions for Graphic Arts Credit Union, SIRE- Houston’s Therapeutic Horsemanship and American Advertising Federation~ Houston Chapter. He has been an active member with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo since 1999 and currently serves as Vice Chairman for Gatekeepers Committee and on the Calf Scramble Committee. He grew up in Houston and enjoys playing golf with his teenage son, Colby and traveling with his wife, Lisa. He is a proud UHAA Life Member. Go Coogs!

nancy clark

Nancy Vecera Clark (’76), CFRE

Nancy Vecera Clark (’76) has over forty years of professional experience in Fund Raising, Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising. Ms. Clark has held the positions of Director of Donor Relations and Director of Development for the University of Houston and was an Adjunct English Lecturer at the University of Houston-Downtown for ten years.

Prior to these positions, she served as Vice President of Stricklin & Company, a PR/Advertising firm named third largest PR company in the 1988 Houston Business Journal Book of Lists. Before Stricklin & Company, Nancy was the Development Coordinator for Hermann Hospital and Hermann Hospital Estate.

Ms. Clark belongs to several industry, trade and professional organizations and has been named in WHO’S WHO OF AMERICAN WOMEN. She has served on several boards including the Advisory Board of the Texas A&M University Institute for Biosciences and Technology. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston and completed para-legal studies at Houston Community College. Nancy V. Clark (’76) is a proud Life Member.

Kendra Hakanson

Director of Events & Special Programs

As Director of Events & Special Programs for Alumni Relations, Kendra oversees an array of alumni engagement opportunities including UHAA’s signature events, the CoogsConnect online networking platform, partnerships with UH Athletics and more.

She oversees a team whose areas include student programming, the UH class ring program, Life Membership, data management, alumni card, alumni engagement metrics, Party on the Plaza, and Coogs on the Road to name a few.

Kendra joined the University of Houston in February 2014. Originally from Lake Jackson, she received her undergraduate degree in Sports Management from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Business Administration degree, with a concentration in Leadership, from the University of Houston-Downtown. Prior to UH, Kendra spent four years as an Operations Manager for Gold’s Gym International in Austin. She also worked for the Division of Recreational Sports while in school.

Anneka Roberson

Anneka Reed Roberson joined the UHAA team in February 2018. Anneka is a Louisiana native and a proud alumna of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA,  earning a BA in Journalism.

Anneka has been with the University of Houston for over 17 years. She served as a Sales Manager for the Conrad N. Hilton College for over 12 years. She went on to have a short stay in the CLASS Dean’s Office, before joining the University Advancement team where she currently serves as the Project Manager in Alumni Relations.

She is married and has one son (CJ) who is a proud alumnus of the University of Houston Charter School.

Anneka enjoys traveling, sports and spending time with her friends and family.


Kirstyn Speich (’16)

Kirstyn joined the University of Houston as a program manager in March of 2019. As the Program Manager for Life Membership, Kirstyn oversees all things associated with Life Members. Her role includes increasing awareness and support for the program through marketing and promotional efforts as well as maintaining active stewardship with existing Life Members, ensuring they are engaged alumni of the University.

Kirstyn is a graduate of the University of Houston and is a proud Life Member.  She previously worked for a marketing and advertising agency downtown. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Houston’s murals, eating Chick-fil-A, watching baseball or football and playing with her chocolate lab, Charlie, and bloodhound, Copper!


Carolyn Hartmann

Carolyn Hartmann joined the UHAA team in March 2020. Carolyn is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate communications to the alumni audience via print and digital platforms. She also serves as editor of the Alumline magazine and maintains oversight of the website. Carolyn joined the University of Houston in 2015 when she accepted the role of Communications Manager in Annual Giving. She went on to serve as Communications Director of Donor Communications within the University Advancement Division.

Carolyn brings a wealth of diverse experience to Alumni Relations. Originally from Waco, Texas, she attended Baylor University where she obtained a BA in Communications and a MA in Communications and Training and Development. From Baylor, Carolyn accepted a position as Management Intern at the Federal Reserve Bank in Houston. She worked for fourteen years at the Federal Reserve Bank, gaining a variety of skills in management, communications and strategic planning.

After the Federal Reserve Bank, Carolyn joined Brookwoods Group where she served as the communications lead for ConocoPhillips’s United Way Campaign. From there, Carolyn went on to work for MWH Public Relations where she oversaw the agency’s Customer Retention Program.

Aside from her role at UHAA, Carolyn enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters as well as singing in her church choir.

Ashleigh Hildreth joined the University of Houston in March 2019, with over 10 years of experience in finances with the Banking and Healthcare industries. Prior to joining the Alumni Relations team, Ashleigh served as Gift & Records Analyst I. In her current role as Program Manager for Alumni Engagement, Ashleigh will work to enhance the alumni experience through various online platforms. In her free time, Ashleigh enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with family.


Mayra Castillo (’19)

Digital Content Strategist

Mayra Castillo is the Digital Content Strategist for Alumni Relations. Through this role, she creates and optimizes engaging content relevant to the alumni audience of the University of Houston. Her goal is to spread awareness of all things alumni are interested in and encourage them to remain active and engaged with their beloved alma mater.

Mayra is a native Houstonian. She graduated from the University of Houston in the spring of 2019 and has remained an active Life Member ever since. She brings several years of social media marketing and digital marketing experience. Mayra loves to spend time with her family and friends, travel and is a huge Marvel fan!


Leia Burroughs

Student Engagement Manager

Leia joined the UHAA team in February of 2022. As Program Manager, Leia is responsible for engaging current students before they become alumni. Leia graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelors of Arts in Hospitality Restaurant Tourism Management. She is also a graduate of Metropolitan Community College Institute for Culinary Arts in Omaha Nebraska where she trained extensively to become a chef. Prior to UH, Leia spent the last 3 years in the snowy show me state of St. Louis Missouri where she was the Event Specialist for Washington University Olin Business School Graduate Programs Office. Leia is married with 2 fur babies, multipoo Bo who is 4 years old and Jack Russell/Rat Terrier Mix Bailey who is 10 years old. She enjoys cooking, playing with her dogs and exploring Houston city life. 


Julian Cearley

Senior Graphics Designer

Julian Cearley joined the team as Senior Graphic Designer in February of 2022. In this role he oversees the design of all graphics and maintains brand standards for all Alumni Relations communications and marketing.

He comes to Alumni Relations with over 18 years of design experience. Julian graduated from the University of North Texas in 2004 with a BFA in Communication Design, specializing in Advertising Art Direction with top portfolio honors. He has been with the University of Houston since 2013, coming to Alumni Relations from Student Centers as the former graphic designer and manager of Creation Station. Prior to his work at the University, Julian was the Art Director for Health and Fitness Sports Magazine.

In his spare time, Julian enjoys hanging out with his wife, Chelsea, and his young son, Iain. He enjoys brewing mead, gaming, astrophysics and cosmology, and other nerdy things.


Taylor Rouleau (’16, M.A. ’17)

Program Manager, Affiliated Alumni Associations

Taylor Santana-Rouleau (’16, MA ’17) joined UHAA as the Program Manager of Constituent Groups in June 2022. In this role, he will support the activities of several Alumni Associations and work with each group to ensure the engagement needs of our alumni are being met.

Taylor is a proud two time graduate from the university with a BS in Sports & Fitness Administration and MA in Sports Administration. He is married to his college sweetheart, Glissette Santana-Rouleau (’16) who also graduated from the university. As a student he was a student leader for the Student Program Board, Coog Crew, Frontier Fiesta, and Homecoming 2017.

In his free time, he enjoys collecting cards, watching movies, and competing in trivia.


Nyoka Nero

Administrative Assistant

Nyoka Nero joined the Office of Annual Giving at the University of Houston in March 2022, bringing over 10 years of experience in Administration, Document Control and Safety within the Oil & Gas industries and Port of Houston Facilities. Nyoka also has a background in Retail as a Visual Merchandising Manager and Stylist for various specialty brands such as Juicy Couture, J. Crew and Express within the Houston Galleria Area.

Holding a Bachelor of Science in Retail Merchandising Management at Southern New Hampshire University and currently in the process of obtaining a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management and Process Improvement at the University of Houston Downtown.

Nyoka joined the Alumni Relations team in September 2022 as a Administrative Assistant working closely with Associate Vice President, Mike Pede (’89) to address scheduling, organizing, and department financial needs.

Nyoka is a mother of two and enjoys fashion, water/amusement parks and various fun activities with her children as well as spending time with family and friends.
