Mike Pede (’89)

A 1989 graduate of UH’s Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management, Pede has been a devoted Cougar fan ever since the excitement of Phi Slama Jama brought him from his hometown of Philadelphia to study at the University of Houston. During college, he served as Shasta, the university’s mascot for two years, beginning in 1987,  and he hasn’t stopped cheerleading for UH since. Following graduation Mike served in several capacities at UH Athletics from 1989-1993, before serving 13 years as Assistant and Associate AD for Rice University. Beginning in 2006, Mike was in private business for three years and also extended his resume as VP of North American Music for LiveNation in Houston. Now Associate VP for Alumni Relations at UH, Mike has been leading UH alumni relations programs since rejoining his alma mater in 2010 with UHAA.

Mike and his wife, fellow UH graduate Melanie Stinson Pede (’91), are UHAA Life Members and the proud parents of daughters Kelsey (’17) and Krista (Accepted to UH for Fall 2017) . Mike currently serves on advisory boards for Bank of America and Liberty Mutual alumni affinity programs, and on the boards of the Council of Alumni Association Executives and the TD Club of Houston. He is also the Chair of the CASE IV Conference in 2017 in Ft. Worth, having already served  CASE IV as Programming Chair for the 2014 Conference in Houston.  Mike has also been recently added to the CASE Commission on Alumni Relations and  also serves on committees at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Texas Bowl. He is also the current Chair of the American Athletic Conference Alumni Council and a past board member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators. In whatever time is left, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, golf and travel.

 

 

Kristin Burch

Kristin has been a part of the UH family since relocating to Houston in 2011. In her role as Executive Director of Alumni Relations she oversees the day-to-day operations, including setting direction and priorities, assessing progress toward goals and allocating resources.  She also was the Executive Director of Constituent Development for almost three years where she secured philanthropic support for the University, assisted with the development of fundraising strategies, recruitment of staff members and administration of progress against goals.

Kristin was the assistant vice president and director of alumni services with Wake Forest University (her alma mater) for four years where she identified and implemented a university-wide alumni relations program for 65,000+ alumni.  Prior to this, Kristin held four progressively responsible roles at Georgetown University from 2000-2007.  She started as an associate director for regional advancement supporting the alumni relations activities of 7 domestic and 2 international regional clubs and advanced to two other roles at Georgetown before becoming their director of alumni relations, developing and managing a comprehensive program serving 140,000+ alumni.

Kristin is a native of Connecticut and lives in The Woodlands along with her husband, Craig and her son Ben.

Nancy Vecera Clark (’76), CFRE

Nancy Vecera Clark, CFRE, has over thirty-five years of professional experience in Fund Raising, Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising.  Ms. Clark has held the positions of Director of Donor Relations and Director of Development for the University of Houston and was an Adjunct English Lecturer at the University of Houston-Downtown for ten years.

Prior to these positions, she served as Vice President of Stricklin & Company, a PR/Advertising firm named third largest PR company in the 1988 Houston Business Journal Book of Lists.  Before Stricklin & Company, Nancy was the Development Coordinator for Hermann Hospital and Hermann Hospital Estate.

Ms. Clark belongs to several industry, trade and professional organizations and has been named in WHO’S WHO OF AMERICAN WOMEN.  She has served on several boards including the Advisory Board of the Texas A&M University Institute for Biosciences and Technology.  She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston and completed para-legal studies at Houston Community College. Nancy V. Clark is a proud Life Member.

Pamela Gibbs-Smith

Pamela Gibbs-Smith joined the UH family as Marketing and Communications Manager for the Alumni Association in the summer of 2015. Pamela is a Michigan native. She’s a proud alumna of Eastern Michigan University. Pamela enjoys traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Scotty joined the UHAA staff in the spring of 2014 as a Program Coordinator. Prior to joining, he worked as an assistant for Michael MacFarlane of MacFarlane Realty in Pasadena TX. Scotty lives in the Clear Lake area and received both his MBA (fall 2012) and a BS in Kinesiology (fall 2009) from the University of Houston. He has four older sisters who have all received multiple degrees from the University of Houston (11 degrees between the 5 of them). He enjoys spending his free time with family and friends.

Joe Rera

Joe joined the University of Houston in October of 2015 after working in the Special Events and Tours department with the Houston Astros.  Previously, he worked in the Athletic Department at St. Mary’s High School in Buffalo, NY for six years; including over two years as the Athletic Director.  He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Medaille College in 2009 (Buffalo) and a Master’s Degree from Canisius College (Buffalo) in 2010.  In his free time, he enjoys golfing, watching sports and spending time with his twin nieces;  Amelia and Gianna.

Kendra Hakanson

Kendra joined the University of Houston in February 2014. Originally from the Houston area, she received her degree in Sports Management from the University of Texas. Prior to UH, Kendra spent four years as an Operations Manager for Gold’s Gym International in Austin. She also worked for the Division of Recreational Sports while in school.

Vanessa Pham

Vanessa Pham joined UHAAF in 2014 and has been with the University of Houston for over 15 years. Prior to joining UHAAF, she was an accountant for UH-General Accounting and NSM Department. In her most recent role, she was a Financial Analyst and Asst. Business-Finance Administrator for KUHT-TV/KUHF-FM Department for over 12 years. Vanessa graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA in Accounting. She is married and has a daughter and son who (she hopes) will plan to attend UH in near future.
