Ryan Baird (’01)
Founder and President, Johnson Street Partners (JSP)

Prior to starting JSP, Mr. Baird was the co-founder of Yellow Rose Distilling, the Houston area’s first whiskey distillery.  Before leading the company to a successful sale in 2017, Yellow Rose won numerous gold medals at the San Francisco, New York and American Distilling Institute spirit competitions along with various business awards like the Cougar 100 top 10 fastest growing business.  Mr. Baird was recognized in the first class of  the UH 4 under 40 and received the UH Engineering Alumni Association’s “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award”.

Before entering the spirits industry, Mr. Baird served in various sales, marketing and engineering roles at technology companies.  Mr. Baird graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and from Rice University with a masters in business administration.  He is a regular guest lecturer at both Rice University and the University of Houston in the field of marketing, strategy and entrepreneurship.

Mike Cosby
Bar Manager, Gulf Coast Distillers

Mike Cosby has over 20 years of experience within the Food & Beverage industry from working as a Sous Chef in the kitchen, to being a Support Manager on the operations side. As Gulf Cost Distiller’s Bar Manager, he combines his love of food and knowledge of distilling the finest spirits by creating a full drink program for the distillery’s tasting room that will pair well with food. His journey with Carlos de Aldecoa (’97), President and CEO of Gulf Coast Distillers and UH Alum, started in 2007 when Carlos was operating his coffee plant, Maximus. Mike then went on working up the ranks at Carlos’ sugar plant and his other coffee company, Eximus. Today, they work together to give GCD guests a full distillery experience. You can find Mike guiding tours through the distillery, creating drinks behind the bar, or mountain biking on his days off.
