After the cloudiest January, February and probably even March that I can remember here in the city, you can be sure the sun has been shining on the University of Houston the entire time!
I hope as you read this you are feeling the pride and excitement for your alma mater that I am feeling with our accomplishments in just the first three months of this year!
Whether it is the momentum behind our new College of Medicine, which was approved by the state legislature, the Hilton College starting its 50th anniversary celebration, the upcoming celebration of our honorees at the 65th Annual Alumni Awards Gala, or the joy of watching our men’s basketball team advance to the Sweet 16 — what an exciting 2019 it has been so far!
Thank you all for helping us reach our $1 billion “Here, We Go” Campaign milestone 18 months ahead of schedule! It took every one of us and we got there, with time to spare. But there is more to accomplish in the coming months.
The year is just getting started, and our alumni associations are picking up steam, planning their events for the summer and early fall and putting together strategic plans for the next five years to bring you the best, most engaging programming.
I want to thank our UHAAF board for their continued support of our alumni relations program, and as I enter, unbelievably, my 10th year here at UHAA, we are really getting this train rolling!
But it takes all of us to make it happen. With over 275,000 alumni of our university spread all over the United States and the world, with different interests and a diversity that is unmatched, YOUR ideas, volunteerism and engagement are vital to our success. I thank you if you’ve been engaged and I hope we will find you soon if you have not. But now is the time!
So download your alumni app to your phone, become a Life Member, find a place to volunteer, get on board and “Here, We Go”!
True we’ll ever be,
