As we get ready for May, and prepare to add another fantastic group of Cougars to the UH Alumni Association, I’m reminded of what a great time it is for so many families around the country as they celebrate one of their own walking across the stage at graduation!
The time-honored tradition of Commencement is always exciting, but it is so especially here at the University of Houston, where we have so many graduates who are the first in their family to obtain a college degree. Each year when we have Ring Ceremonies, we ask that these hardworking graduates stand. Thunderous applause greets these first college graduates as UH acknowledges their accomplishments.
And this year, for my family, it’s just a little more special. My daughter, Kelsey, will be walking across the stage in just a couple of weeks, and I don’t know when I’ve been prouder to not only to be the Associate VP for Alumni Relations, but the father of a graduate, as well!
There are many other special events this month. Whether you make it out to the Ted Bauer Golf Classic in mid-May, or attend one of the events we have near the end of the month in conjunction with our numerous constituent alumni associations, we will be glad to welcome you! Hopefully you will be able to make it out to campus this month – and while you’re here, don’t forget to take pictures with our new “Legacy of the Cougar Paw” statue outside Gate 2 at TDECU Stadium. Whenever our alumni make it out to campus, we celebrate them!
Congratulations to all of our graduates as they reach this milestone in their lives, and congratulations to all the families out there taking part in graduations – what a huge accomplishment for your family!
Especially this month, we remain true! Go Coogs!
