The UHlink Mentor Program: Jan 2026 – April 2026
The UHlink Mentor Program is an opportunity for UH alumni mentors and student mentees to develop meaningful professional relationships, empowering students to find success in their career and beyond. Mentor-mentee pairs will meet at minimum once per month over the course of three months to set goals, share insights or work through career topics provided by program staff. To sign up, you’ll need to fill out the UHlink Mentor Program Application on UHlink.

How to Join the Spring 2026 UHlink Mentor Program
Step 1) Understand the UHlink Mentor Program Expectations and Commitment.
By joining the program, you agree to uphold the UH Mission, Vision & Values, UHlink’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and the UHlink Mentor Program Code of Conduct.
The program runs from January to April, and mentors and mentees commit to meeting on a regular basis (at least once per month) during that timeframe.
Step 2) Complete the Spring 2026 UHlink Mentor Program Application on UHlink.
Be advised that we cannot guarantee that all applicants will be matched with a mentor/mentee. In the event that we are not able to match you for the Spring 2026 Program, staff will provide you with relevant resources and information.

Step 3) Update/Complete your profile!
Make your profile as complete and accurate as possible to ensure we have the best information at our disposal when creating matches.
From the dropdown arrow menu in the top right corner, click “Edit Profile.” We recommend you:

- Upload a professional photo
- Add your academic, professional and volunteer experience
- Fill in the “Other Information” section to help create a strong, well-rounded match
Make sure you update your email, industry, major, college, location and mentorship preferences — these are especially important for matching!
- If you’re an alumnus seeking to mentor, select options under “Offer Mentoring.” For students looking for a mentor, select from the options under “Seek Mentoring.”
- Click “Save” at the bottom of your profile page to make sure your changes are recorded.

UHlink Mentor Program FAQs
General
How are mentors and mentees matched?
Mentors and mentees will be matched based on UHlink’s algorithm, taking into account users’ profile details as well as the information provided in their applications. It’s important to make sure this information is accurate and up-to-date.
How long is the UHlink Mentor Program?
The program runs from Jan. 12, 2026 through April 24, 2026. Program participants commit to being in a mentoring relationship for the duration of the program. Deadlines and other information will be communicated through the UHlink Mentor Program Group.
Will everyone be matched with a mentor/mentee?
We do our best to accommodate all applicants, but we cannot guarantee that everyone who joins the program will be matched. In the event that we are not able to match you for the Spring 2026 Program, staff will provide you with relevant resources and information.
What is the time commitment?
Mentors and mentees commit to meeting once per month (minimum) and can conduct the entire program virtually on UHlink.
All program participants are required to attend a 1-hour training and orientation session via Zoom on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Details will be shared when applicants are admitted to the program.
How many mentors/mentees can I have?
Each mentor is matched with one mentee, and vice versa.
Can a mentoring relationship continue after the UHlink Mentor Program ends?
Mentors and mentees are welcome to continue the relationship as long as they are both willing and able.
Do I have to be in Houston to participate?
No, there is no location requirement for participation. You can connect via phone calls, email, Skype, Zoom, UHlink video chat or FaceTime and still be a great mentor/mentee.
Make sure you update your profile to include the most accurate city/region in the “Location” field.
Do I need to be in a certain field or industry?
The UHlink Mentor Program is designed to accommodate mentors and mentees from all fields and industries.
What if I have to end my mentoring relationship early?
We recognize that despite our best efforts, not every mentoring relationship is a great fit. Sometimes, circumstances change, and participants are no longer able to bring their best self to the program. We encourage mentors and mentees to honor their commitment and give the relationship a fair shake. But if the situation changes, don’t ghost each other! Be honest and up-front. If you feel it’s appropriate to end the relationship, send a concise and respectful message to your mentor/mentee.
If you leave a mentoring relationship early, notify program staff at uhlink@uh.edu. We may attempt to find a new match for the participants but cannot guarantee one.

Who can be a mentor?
All UH alumni are eligible to be a mentor.
Why should I be a mentor?
UH students are willing and eager to learn from your professional and personal experiences. In today’s competitive workplace, the UH alumni community plays a vital role in setting students up for success. Your expertise and insights could be the thing that makes a difference in a student’s career! In the spirit of Cougars helping Cougars, we hope mentorship provides meaningful relationships that will continue to grow and evolve far beyond the program.
What is expected of me as a mentor?
The UHlink Mentor Program is designed to engage alumni volunteers of all backgrounds and experience levels. When applying to the program, you commit to connect on a regular basis (at least once per month). However, you and your mentee can determine the frequency and form of communication. Prior mentorship experience is not required.

Students
Who can be a mentee?
Any currently enrolled UH student.
Why should i participate in the UHlink Mentor Program?
As a mentee, you have exclusive access to a robust network of alumni who are ready to share their insights and advice. The UHlink Mentor Program is a unique opportunity to form meaningful bonds with alumni that extend beyond campus walls.
What is expected of me as a mentee?
When applying to the program, you commit to connect with your mentor on a regular basis (at least once per month). However, you and your mentor can determine the frequency and form of communication.
DO NOT ask your mentor for a job, internship or introduction. Although the program is a great way to expand your professional horizons, it should not be considered a way to land a job or internship.
Don’t ghost your mentor! Be honest and upfront. If you have persistent issues getting in touch with your mentor, you can reach out to uhlink@uh.edu.

I want to participate in the program as a mentor, but my profile is still set to “student.” How do I change it?
Email uhlink@uh.edu with a link to your profile and request an update.
How do I update my email address?
At the top right corner of the page, click on the downward arrow next to your profile icon, and then click “Settings.” In your Account Settings, enter the email address you’d like to use, then click “Save.” Head over to your email inbox and click the verification link to finalize the change.
Do I need to use a UH email?
Participants are welcome to use any email address they choose.
What if I run into other platform issues?
